We are pleased to launch the Red Team Journal occasional paper series with an article by John P. Sullivan and Adam Elkus titled “Adaptive Red Teaming: Protecting Across the Spectrum.” In the article, John and Adam propose three methods of improving analytical red teaming and discuss each in turn. Additional papers in the series will follow in the coming months.

Great artcile guys. Much needed area to explore and utilize in the law enforcement spectrum. To create and nurture Full Sectrum Policing this type of thinking/training “Adaptive Redteaming” is neccessary not only in assesing threats that progresively unfold but that spontaneously unfold as well, as in a violent crime of opportunity or say a cop responding to a violent disturbance. We often do not even consider the thought process of the other side in these type situations and respond on emotion with no tactical thought. Adaptive Redteaming would work wonders to develop on the fly assessments and decison makers as well. I like to call it, “conditioning the Boyd Cycle.” You must seek to understand the adversarial side of the equation.
We have to make this part of the way we train and the training must be ongoing. Tactical Decison Games and Free pLay exercises is the way to do it as you mentioned.
Great article!
Fred
