We’ve added a second session of the “one-time only” “Dragon and Knight” course on 16 Dec. to accommodate those who couldn’t attend the first one.

‘Red Teaming’: Is There a Better Term?

As long as I’ve been red teaming, I’ve heard that the community should adopt another name for the practice. “People don’t know what red teaming is,” I’ve been told. “You need to come up with something better, something more descriptive.” Alternative analysis, challenge analysis, penetration testing, devil’s advocacy–each is sometimes kicked around as a possible substitute, but each of these is either broader or more narrow, at least in my mind.
Is there a better term, or should we just do our best to ensure that the term red teaming earns the widespread recognition that it deserves? Perhaps it simply depends on the audience, or maybe we need to do a better job of defining our terms. Note that comments are open for this one; we want to hear what you think.
